Career Timeline

Mar 2024 - Present

Fortescue: Project Manager - Digital Energy

As part of Fortescue's transition toward green energy, I led strategic IT projects supporting the rollout of: a Australian hydrogen production plant, manufacturing facilities in China, technology supporting R&D of green hydrogen production, and international corporate offices. This role demanded a rethink of traditional mining IT assumptions to meet the technology requirements of new operational domains.

I facilitated cross-domain collaboration between OT, manufacturing engineers, and enterprise IT teams, helping the business explore new digital frontiers in production, security, and infrastructure.

Key Achievements: Set up global sites in China, US & Norway. Introduced modern IT to manufacturing & hydrogen ops.

What I Learned: How to reframe traditional IT architecture thinking to support emerging energy technology environments.

Why I'm Open to New Opportunities: With project certainty at Fortescue limited beyond June 2025, I'm proactively exploring senior or cybersecurity-focused roles that align with my long-term career direction and leadership aspirations.

May 2023 – Mar 2024

Mineral Resources: IT Project Manager

Led multiple IT streams across the Onslow Iron program, supporting both construction and business operations. Delivered solutions ranging from GPON-based entertainment to SD-WAN, LTE, server provisioning, fibre builds, and bespoke comms systems. Key projects included rolling out corporate and marine IT across a fleet of 5 transhipper vessels, and meeting tight deadlines by repurposing infrastructure to meet shifting workfront priorities.

Key Achievements: Delivered the IT and communications scope for the newly created Marine division, including corporate and marine IT systems, and a range of communication systems (LTE / HF / VHF / Sat) for the Transhipper fleet and shore-side support.

What I Learned: How to align diverse infrastructure needs under aggressive timelines through vendor collaboration and adaptive logistics.

Why I Left: While the role was rewarding, the lack of flexible or hybrid work arrangements prompted me to consider better-aligned opportunities. Fortescue offered a similar scope of responsibilities with improved work-life balance.

May 2022 - May 2023

Tronox: IT Project Manager

Managed infrastructure and application projects nationally, aligning delivery with strategic business goals. Focused on corporate IT with extensions into OT environments, maintaining project controls and stakeholder alignment. A Bit About Me

Originally from the UK, I came to Australia backpacking in the early 2000s and never quite made it back. I’m a father of three daughters who challenge and inspire me daily. I’ve always been a tech enthusiast—nerdy in the best ways—and love everything from retro computing to the bleeding edge (this website is a small example). I’m particularly drawn to cybersecurity, hacking, and ethical tinkering—I’ve taught myself Python, built a home lab, and regularly explore attack boxes. Outside of tech, I enjoy reading (especially Hugo and Nebula-nominated sci-fi) and would love to spend more time sailing… if only there were more hours in the day.
